{"id":258313,"date":"2025-12-19T21:20:26","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T20:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/angelicas.es\/the-basilica-del-pilar-blesses-and-enthrones-the-sculpture-of-saint-genoveva-torres-morales-as-part-of-the-centenary-celebrations-of-the-angelic-sisters\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T15:16:33","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T14:16:33","slug":"the-basilica-del-pilar-blesses-and-enthrones-the-sculpture-of-saint-genoveva-torres-morales-as-part-of-the-centenary-celebrations-of-the-angelic-sisters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/angelicas.es\/en\/the-basilica-del-pilar-blesses-and-enthrones-the-sculpture-of-saint-genoveva-torres-morales-as-part-of-the-centenary-celebrations-of-the-angelic-sisters\/","title":{"rendered":"The Basilica del Pilar blesses and enthrones the sculpture of Saint Genoveva Torres Morales as part of the centenary celebrations of the Angelic Sisters."},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sculpture, created by Navarran artist Diana Garc\u00eda Roy, has been placed in the recently restored Chapel of Saint Joachim.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of Zaragoza, Monsignor Carlos Escribano Sub\u00edas. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The enthronement is one of the central events of the Centenary of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Angels (1925\u20132025).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yesterday, December 18, at 4:30 p.m., the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar hosted the blessing and enthronement ceremony for the sculpture of Saint Genoveva Torres Morales, founder of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Angels, known as the Angelic Sisters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceremony was presided over by Monsignor Carlos Escribano Sub\u00edas, Archbishop of Zaragoza, and took place in the Chapel of San Joaqu\u00edn, also known as the Chapel of Confession, which has recently been restored and is now open to the public. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A solemn ecclesiastical ceremony in the heart of El Pilar<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceremony was attended by civil authorities, members of the Metropolitan Council of the Basilica del Pilar, the artist who created the work, Diana Garc\u00eda Roy, as well as numerous Angelic nuns from different houses in Spain, who wanted to accompany this historic moment for the Congregation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his homily, the Archbishop of Zaragoza pointed out that \u201cwe cannot understand these hundred years without looking at the face\u201d of the founder of the congregation, since \u201cher life teaches us that God does not seek perfect instruments, but willing hearts.\u201d \u201cFrom her own physical frailty and the loneliness of her youth, she did not shut herself up in pain, but turned it into a bridge to others,\u201d recalled the archbishop.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding that first group of nuns, she noted that \u201cshe understood that the world is healed by \u2018repairing,\u2019 and her first form of repair was to give her own life through the evangelical counsels.\u201d In this sense, Saint Genevieve \u201cnot only gave them a habit, but a way of life. She taught them that vows are not a burden, but wings to fly to those in need.\u201d  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new sculpture is on permanent display for prayer and veneration by the faithful inside the basilica. The body of Saint Genoveva Torres Morales, however, remains in her chapel at the General House of the Congregation, located at Plaza del Pilar, 22, a few meters from the temple. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The enthronement of this image represents ecclesiastical and spiritual recognition of Saint Genevieve, who is deeply linked to Zaragoza and the history of the Congregation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-258185 alignleft lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/angelicas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Estatua-Santa-Genoveva-169x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 169px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 169\/300;\"><\/p>\n<p><b> \u201cBack to our roots to embrace the future\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the centenary celebrations, Mother Enedina Fern\u00e1ndez Bueno, Superior General of the Institute, also gave a talk entitled \u201cGrateful memory. Returning to our roots to embrace the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During her speech, Mother Enedina gave an emotional account of the origins of the Congregation, paying special tribute to the 19 nuns who took their vows alongside Saint Genoveva Torres.
