Holy Week: How to live intensely the holiest days of the year.
Holy Week is the culminating moment of the liturgical year, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, this time is for all Catholics the opportunity to accompany Christ in his passion, death and resurrection, renewing faith and Christian commitment. But how can we live these holy days intensely? In this article we offer you tips and resources to make the most of this Holy Week 2025 and live it with a heart completely open to the Lord.
1. Prepare yourself with prayer.
Prayer is the way to connect with the mystery of Christ’s Passion. Take time for personal and family meditation; pray the Stations of the Cross and participate in the liturgies of Holy Week. It is an ideal time for inner silence and contemplation.
2. Participate actively in liturgical celebrations.
From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, the Church offers us a rich liturgy that invites us to immerse ourselves in the mystery of redemption, which reaches its climax during the celebration of the Easter Triduum:
- Maundy Thursday
The Last Supper is commemorated, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood. It also commemorates the washing of the feet, a gesture of humility and service that invites us to love and serve others. - Good Friday
Day of recollection and reflection on the Passion and Death of Christ on the Cross. It commemorates his redemptive sacrifice and invites to prayer, fasting and veneration of the Holy Cross. - Holy Saturday
A day of silence and waiting, in which the Church meditates on the mystery of Christ in the tomb. It is a day of spiritual preparation for the great celebration of the Easter Vigil, when the Resurrection is proclaimed. - Easter Sunday
A day of rejoicing and joy, celebrating Christ’s victory over death. With his Resurrection, Jesus opens the way to eternal life and renews our hope for salvation.
3. Live Holy Week with works of charity.
Jesus teaches us that love is translated into concrete works. Take advantage of these days to help those most in need, visit the sick, reconcile with someone or simply offer gestures of love and forgiveness.
4. Reflect on the Word of God.
Meditate on the biblical passages that relate the Passion of Christ, such as the Gospels of Matthew (chapter 26-28) and John (chapter 18-20). Reading and deepening your knowledge of Sacred Scripture will help you to live more intensely this time of grace.
5. Accompany Jesus in silence and adoration.
Good Friday and Holy Saturday are days of recollection. Visit the Blessed Sacrament, accompany Christ at the tomb and let your heart be disposed to the joy of the Resurrection.
6. Celebrate Easter with joy.
Easter Sunday is the victory over death. Participate joyfully in the Eucharist and share this joy with others. It is a time to renew faith and proclaim that Christ has conquered death.
