From 6 to 8 June, Valladolid hosted the International Congress Cor Iesu Spes Mundi (The Heart of Jesus, Hope for the World), an initiative that brought together more than 400 participants from various dioceses in Spain, Latin America and other European countries, with the aim of deepening the current situation and the spiritual message of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Among the congregations present were also the Angelic Sisters, whose presence was marked by a profoundly spiritual approach, in line with their charism centred on the tenderness, mercy and redemptive love of the Heart of Christ, especially towards those suffering from loneliness.
Reflection and witness to the love of the Heart of Christ
The general secretary of the congregation, Sister María del Carmen del Amo The meeting was ‘very enriching in terms of doctrine and experience’, stressing that ‘as Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus we are called to live and witness to the unfathomable richness of his love’. In this sense, she stressed that “his love urges us. It is the hour of love”.
During the congress sessions, which included theological conferences, testimony panels and prayer spaces, special emphasis was placed on the role of the saints as concrete witnesses of Christ’s unconditional love. ‘From this love and trust in Him, the saints have given their lives as witnesses of tenderness and mercy for people in need in every way’, continues Sr Maria del Carmen, citing the case of the foundress of the Angelicas, St Genoveva Torres Morales, whom she defines as ‘an instrument of God’s tenderness and mercy for those who suffer loneliness’.
A contemporary message for a wounded world
The event, organised in the context of the Jubilee Year, left its participants with the conviction that the Heart of Jesus continues to be a message of hope, consolation and trust for the contemporary world. “The Heart of Christ welcomes us, forgives us, heals our wounds, loves us infinitely? Let us go to Him repeating over and over again: Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You‘.
Cor Iesu Spes Mundi Congress has been, in short, an ecclesial meeting point which has strengthened the conviction that the message of the Heart of Jesus continues to be urgent and necessary. For the Angelicas, this conviction translates into a life of dedication, silent and fruitful, which seeks to be a reflection of the love that flows from the pierced side of Christ.
