Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a liturgical season that invites reflection, repentance and spiritual renewal. During this day, thousands of faithful go to the temples to receive the ashes on their foreheads, a sign that reminds us of our human frailty and the need to return to God with a sincere heart.
Meaning of Ash Wednesday
The ashes placed on our heads remind us of the biblical words: “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19). This gesture calls us to humility and to recognize that our life on earth is fleeting, but that we are called to conversion and to live according to the Gospel.
Ash Wednesday also introduces us to a time of penance and purification. Lent, which lasts 40 days until Easter, is an opportunity to examine our lives, strengthen our relationship with God and renew our commitment to others.
How to live Lent with purpose
To take advantage of this time of grace, the Church invites us to practice three fundamental pillars:

Participate in the Eucharist and attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
2. Fasting: A Meaningful Sacrifice
Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence.
Renounce anything that distracts you from God, such as social networking or excessive entertainment.
Fast from selfishness, impatience or negative judgments of others.
3. Alms: Love in Action
Help those who need it most with generosity.
Spend time visiting the sick, accompanying people in solitude or collaborating with social works.
Share your goods with humility and without expecting anything in return.
A call to conversion
Lent is a journey of interior renewal. It invites us to look within ourselves, recognize our weaknesses and ask God to transform us. It is an opportunity to grow in faith and prepare ourselves for the great feast of Christ’s Resurrection.
