The Immaculate Conception of Mary is the dogma of faith which declares that by a singular grace of God, Mary was preserved from all sin, from the moment of her conception. As we will demonstrate, this doctrine is of apostolic origin, although the dogma was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854, in his bull Ineffabilis Deus. “…we declare, proclaim and define that the doctrine which holds that the most blessed Virgin Mary was preserved immune from all stain of original sin at the first instant of her conception by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God, in view of the merits of Christ Jesus, Savior of the human race, is revealed by God and must therefore be firmly and constantly believed by all the faithful…” Pius IX, December 8, 1854.
