Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the deepest expressions of God’s love for humanity. In this pierced heart, burning with charity and tenderness, we find a refuge of peace, a school of humility, and a constant call to live the mercy as a Christian way of life.
A heart that loves without measure
The Sacred Heart represents the total, compassionate and self-giving love of Christ. His image, with his heart surrounded by thorns, wounded and crowned with fire, reminds us of Jesus’ passion, but also of his desire to heal and console all wounded hearts. This devotion, spread especially since the revelations to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century, is still alive and well today.
A profoundly evangelical devotion
To love the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to embrace its central message: God is mercy.. As Pope Francis recalled, ‘the heart of Christ is the mercy of God made flesh’. This devotion invites us to contemplate Christ’s love and to allow ourselves to be transformed by it.
In our daily lives, we can honour the Heart of Christ:
- By turning to Him in daily prayer.
- Offering our sufferings and joys.
- Practising acts of mercy with those around us.
- Participating in the Eucharist and taking communion on the first Friday of the month, a tradition associated with this devotion.
A call for our times
In a world marked by indifference, individualism and the woundedness of the human heart, the Sacred Heart of Jesus calls us to be witnesses of his love. As Angelic Sisters, we want to live from that heart, being a presence of comfort, listening and mercy where it is most needed.
To consecrate oneself to the Sacred Heart is to open oneself to a new life, centred on the Gospel and active love for others. It is to allow the fire of his heart to transform our own, and our deeds to reflect his compassion.
